But why go with Boxer instead of Stryker?? That is a bit of a confusing choice, because if your forces are trying to model Stryker Brigades you might as well use the same kit. At least with the Stryker you would have more options to up gun them and add 30 mike mike, and get a few other special variants that will be very useful. Like the SHOARD version which is coming out.

Basically because the UK has already invested a shed load of money in the Boxer.

Well how long has this procurement program stretched out for?? It looks like a neat bit of kit just slightly under gunned when compared to their Russian counterparts.

There will be a multitude of people more knowledgable than me to give you the facts but this is the second time we have looked at Boxer after we binned it the first time round. Seems to have been going on forever.

My understanding is that we went into the original program, demanded lots of gold plate, then pulled out because that meant it weighed too much and have now had to go back with our tails between our legs probably paying a premium for not being part of the consortium.

If it's an APC then frankly you don't want a gun otherwise some idiot will start calling it a light tank and expecting you to engage in maneuver warfare.

Who's going to be fighting the Russians in the near future it's certainly not Britain?

I am just trying to figure out what wheeled and tracked vehicles are going to do in this strike brigade concept besides become a logistical nightmare.

It is a wheeled vehicle so it will be required to engage in maneuver warfare against opponents with similar capabilities. The .50 caliber and 40mm AGL (MK 19) are not going to work as well against similar vehicles and the 30 mike mike does enable it to reach out and touch others from a distance. Adding some form of ATGM does it give it more options against heavier armour should the need arise.

We seem to be forgetting this whole NATO concept, or at least some people seem to think that it won't ever happen. Luckily not everybody thinks along those lines and are actively preparing to fight a near peer rival.

Weighing upto 38 tonne , hope they dont have to use it in a UK winter on Dartmoor.
