The 18th book in the Army Wheels in Motion series was released in August this year, in time to coincide with 1/35 scale kit releases of the same vehicle.
This 48 page, soft covered book covers the three main versions of the Scammell Pioneer as used by the Allied forces; SV2S Tractor Heavy Breakdown 6x4,Tank Transporter TRMU 30, R100 Heavy Artillery Tractor
The book contains some very good B&W all round photos of the vehicle in action and display pictures. There are also some good quality colour photos of rebuilt vehicles and some excellent line drawings of important vehicle features.
As is normal with the series, the text is in both English and Czech, with a lot of the photos leaning towards the Pioneer in Czech service. Be that as it may, this is an excellent history of one of the stalwarts of the military recovery scene and one that is much-needed, as “wreckers“ don't seem to attract the same attention as Tanks and Artillery.
I cannot sing the praises of this book highly enough. It has everything the modeller or historian needs and gives excellent detailed information on all aspects of one of the Army's finest vehicles, albeit, unsung.
