Chris Bishop was a prolific military historian who wrote and contributed to numerous military publications during a career spanning over 25 years. His books include German Campaigns of WW2; The Rise of Hitler's Third Reich; SS-Hitler's Foreign Divisions; The Essential Tank Identification Guide; Wehrmacht Panzer Divisions; Panzergrenadier Divisions 1939-45; The Essential Aircraft Identification Guide; Lxuftwaffe Squadrons 1939-45 and many more.

This is a hardback book measuring 9¾ x 7½ inches with a coloured slip-jacket which matches the twin covers of the book. The 192 pages contain some excellent black and white photos and is illustrated with detailed artworks of vehicles and their markings. The book is a definitive study of the equipment and organisation of Germany's elite Waffen SS Divisions during World War II.

The book is divided into four main chapters, The First SS Divisions, The Expansion of the SS, The Volunteer Divisions and the Late-War Divisions. Each of the main chapters is divided into sections containing the history of each division in the chronological order of which they were formed. With 38 Divisions formed, there is plenty to read and observe.

The sections contain the previously mentioned artworks as well as photos and Organisation Charts using Tactical Symbols.

The coloured artworks feature all vehicles and equipment used by the various SS units from Artillery, SP Artillery, Armoured Cars, Staff Cars, Motorcycles, Trucks, Prime Movers, Tanks and Specialist Vehicles. It really is a jewel of a book to have. I personally feel it should be entitled "An Encyclopædia", the information contained within it is that good and that well organised!

I feel this will mainly be of interest to the Modeller, but there is plenty for the War-Gamer, Historian or Scholar. Details are accurate, photos are clear and artworks give an excellent indication of how the vehicles should have looked during their years of service.

I cannot praise this book highly enough and recommend it to you with an Outstanding 5/5.
