This book will be of interest to both modellers and those interested in the history and the mechanical details of the Tiger1 used on the Eastern Front
The book begins on Saturday 29th August 1942, and the initial deployment of four Tiger 1 tanks, under the command of Major Richard Marker, and details their journey into the forests south-east of Leningrad, and their total failure due to mechanical problems caused by the rushed introduction and lack of realistic testing
A full page map displays the layout of Eastern Europe as it was in 1941, when the invasion of the Soviet Union began ( using the names and spelling then in current use)
Then in chronological a diary of the daily events starting on the 1st of August 1942 and then running through to the 31st March 1943 until the Spring Thaw intervened
The make up of the Schwere Panzer—Abteilung battalion is illustrated showing the groups, and the quantity and marks of Tanks involved right up to the time of the thaw in 1943
The book is illustrated with many original and crystal clear photographs, along with enlargements showing modifications and special equipment
Following this an entire chapter of high quality line drawings , showing tank markings, camouflage and weaponry
The book then moves on to display some superb models in 1/35th scale that look so good you could be forgiven for thinking they are retouched origional images , a description of the paint finishes used , and modifications by the various builders to achieve accuracy .
The book then goes on to cover the various kit manufactures , and the quality of the mouldings and accesories
The Final Chapter covers Technical Details and modifications including the Henschel , Daimler Benz , Porsche and M.A.N. , illustrated with some rare factory images , and enlargement
