Dreadfully injured in the Arnhem landings, paratrooper Theo Trickey was never expected to survive. In the aftermath of defeat, captured Medical Officer Captain Daniel Garland pulled Trickey's comatose body from a pile of copses, keeping him alive as they were shipped to a prisoner-of-war camp in Germany. Now, as Trickey slowly recovers, Garland is discovering that there's something quite unusual about his young charge.

Trickey has had a remarkable war. Boy soldier, commando, paratrooper, intelligence officer – he has fought from the northern coast of France to the deserts of Africa. But that's not all. What was Trickey's connection with Germany's greatest general, the recently deceased Erwin Rommel? Why have the Desert Fox's loyalest officers tracked him down and just what is it that they want Garland to do?

From the bestselling author of Under an English Heaven, Freefall is the second part of Radcliffe's Airborne trilogy which tells the extraordinary story of a young soldier, of a new regiment and how, together, they changed the course of a war.

Well what a book! A history of the Paras wrapped in a rollicking yarn. Pull up a few sandbags and enjoy this roller coaster story of the Paras against huge odds short on men and equipment as they fight battles behind enemy lines . We start with the Brunival raid when the boffins has decided that they need specific parts of the German Radar system and designed special tool to remove the delicate instruments to return them for closer investigation , true to form the Paras were spread out beyond the planned drop zone and had to reorganise and regroup on the hoof . Once they managed to get to the radar the special equipment failed to work so our hero's improvised as they are wont to do using a large crowbar to good effect !

I wont spoil the fun by telling you more about the plot but its a corker.

The writing is easy and fluid, which keeps you turning the pages , fantastic descriptions of the Paras in action: yes a great ripping yarm which has made me want to get hold of the other two books in the series . Holidays are coming up do your self a favour and pack this gem in with your towels .
