* A long narrow hole in the ground populated by extremely pissed off soldiers who have probably been living in the hole for a while. Used extensively in WW1 where it was home to the average Tom. Staff Officers had to rough it in nice comfy chateaux about 35 miles from the front. Still the safest place to be in an artillery barrage ... the trench, not the chateau.
