Shipwright
Shipwright is one of the unknown trades in the Army. They are a part of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) and are based in Southampton. The Shipwrights maintain the RLC's fleet of marine vessels and are highly-skilled tradesmen with a range of different skills. On the basic Class III course they are expected to complete the following:
- Welding - Oxy-Acetylene, Manual Metal Arc, Metal Inert Gas and Tungsten Inert Gas
- Sheet metal work (SMW) and heat treatment
- Composite material repair techniques
- Carpentry
- Soldering
- Cutting and brazing
These are just some of the trade skills to make it as a REME Shipwright.
