British and Commonwealth: W1F320.jpg

French Foreign Legion: Belly_Patch_Post_92_All_Units_Sergeant.jpg

First level of SNCO, can be found at Platoon and Squadron level tidying up after the Subalterns' accidents. That nice NCO who always thinks of great new ways to get you running. The rank after Corporal and before Staff Sergeant in the British and US Army. Spelt serjeant in some regiments.

Often mispronounced Sarge. This is normally a mistake new Officer Cadets and Privates make... once!
