A Lieutenant General is a three-star general who would in war usually command a Corps sized formation.

The rank has a NATO rank code of OF-8, equivalent to a Vice-Admiral in the Royal Navy or an Air Marshal in the Royal Air Force (RAF) or the air forces of many Commonwealth countries. The then new Royal Air Force used the rank from the 1st April 1918, to the 31st July 1919 where it was superseded by Air Marshal.

Rank insignia is a crown over a crossed sabre and baton.
