Former adventure camp of the British Army running from all points south of the River Lagan to the border of the Irish Republic. From Castlereagh and Short's munitions factory in East Belfast to civilised Bangor in the north of the royal county the area stretches down over the rugged Mourne Mountains to Warrenpoint in the south. Ballykinler is just one of its many varied attractions to those of a military disposition. There is no link between the mong inhabitants and the naming of the Syndrome but it is an easy mistake to fall into, especially the nearer that one approaches Newry.
