Major Events

The following major events took place in 1976:

  • A long hot summer required the Labour Government of the day to appoint a Minister for Drought encouraging you to share your baths with a friend. (... and only flush when you had to. Dont know about you but I have to EVERYTIME!)
  • Standpipes in the streets.
  • Jumpers for goalposts.

Military Events

The following military events took place in 1976:

  • 1 June: Britain and Iceland officially end the Cod War.
  • 4 July: Israeli forces fly to Uganda and free 103 hostages being held at Entebbe airport.
