Ypres
From ARRSEpedia
Somehow calling it "Wipers" is both apt, and not enough.
RIP
As an aside, something like a million men died within 10 miles of Ypres town centre during World War 1, during the three battles of Ypres.
If you ever get the chance to make a visit, go to Tyne Cot (the largest Commonwealth War Cemetary in the World) as well as the German cemetary at Langemarck. After the end of the War, the Belgians would only let the Germans have one, small, cemetary so there is a mass grave for about 30,000 men in a space the size of a badminton court.
[edit] Winston Churchill
Winston Churchill served here and famously said "A more sacred place for the British race does not exist in the world."
