Winthrop Technique
From ARRSEpedia
Once top secret and highly sophisticated search technique taught to soldiers deploying to NI, recently declassified as a result of the us all being good mates now, and there being no weapons left to discover in the province. Developed by the Northern Ireland Search Wing based on the discoveries of a Royal Engineer named Winthrop and the UK's version of US surveillance satellite magnetic field imagery.
While extremely difficult to describe to the layperson, the system involves standing somwhere in the province - a field, a housing estate or wherever, and, here's the trick it, looking around to see if there's anything to indicate a terrorist hide; a wooden noticeboard with "dis way to da M16s" or somesuch.
