When applied to military communications, one of the three possible ways of passing information over the radio net.
Does exactly what is says on the tin. Can be encrypted or unencrypted (there must be a better way of saying that?) but is folk talking to each other.
Prior to reliable and available encrypted radios, speech was veiled or important information was encoded with BATCO.
The other two methods of passing information are data and Carrier Wave or Morse Code.
