Ulu - The (normally remote) countryside. Also known as 'bondu'.

One of the many terms that hark back to the British Army's long, hot, fly-blasted engagements in foreign climes - Ulu is from a Malay word meaning 'up river' and is commonly mistaken for jungle which is utang - which more accurately means forest.
