SOUND OFF LIKE YOU HAVE A PAIR, MARINE!

American naval soldiers. Originally used on board ships for security and boarding actions, they grew into a separate armed force with 180,000 active and 40,000 reservists as of 2005 with their own ships, carriers and planes. Talk about mission creep!

They have an extremely long list of battle honours (particulary WW2 Pacific Island hopping) although their battle dishonours is also oddly large. Acts of some marines in Vietnam being a major black mark - massacres, fraggings, drugs use. Their activities in Iraq have also raised some questions although many marine supporters/family refuse to accept that any marine has ever done wrong!

The Marine command emphasise the marine and his rifle as the primary weapon of the corps. As a result they do tend to check their targets occasionally as part of their training so their allies (ie the UK squaddie) seem to prefer dealing with the USMC rather than the trigger happy, throw as much lead down range as fast as possible, US Army.
