Tirpitz was the sister ship of the ill-fated Bismarck. Retiring to a convenient Norwegian fjord to sit out the war, she nevertheless kept the British busy trying to sink her. Surrounded by anti-torpedo nets, she sat at her anchorage until British Lancasters of 9 Sqn and 617 Sqn dropped huge bombs which sent her to the bottom. So clear were the waters of the fjord, that Bomber Command continued to send aircraft to bomb the ship long after she had been sunk.
