A TA regiment formed 1 July 1999 with Headquarters at Wolseley House, Wolverhampton from the following:
- 5th Battalion, the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (V)
- 5th Battalion, the Light Infantry (V)
- 3rd Battalion, the [[Staffordshire Regiment] (V)
On the 1st September 2007, the West Midland Regiment - plus elements of the King's Cheshire Regiment and the East of England Regiment - formed the 4th Battalion, The Mercian Regiment (4MERCIAN).
