Affectionate Geordie name for Newcastle, derived from the English word 'town', which is mangled into toon by application of local dialect.

The fact that Newcastle is a city seems to be lost on them.

Spiritual home of Newkie Broon, also known as 'bottle o' dog' after the large hound that sits on the bottom of your bed snarling at you when you have consumed 15 pints of the delicate brew.
