RAF Scaley
In the days of the SLR, times long gone, the RAF had pay grades called Scales for married airmen who where paid more and single airmen who, guess what, where paid less. This led to the married airmen being called Scallies. I am sure this does not make sense now as it didn’t at the time.
I am sure when exercises where called and the free meals supplied to the married guys (bean stealers?) tasted all so good to them but worse the single guys were used to but hey no cleaning up the dishes or having to fight the kids for a fair share.
Unless anyone knows another reason?
