Stalwart
From ARRSEpedia
Entering service with the British Army in 1966, the FV620 Alvis Stalwart (or 'Stolly') was six wheel's worth of pure hell on the highway - or the river should it take your fancy. Basically a floating five tonner, this beastie was straight out of Thunderbirds.
Urban Myths
The stolly is the subject of 2 legendary tales involving soldiers from the old BAOR:
- Lance Corporal Andy Bray, formerly of the RCT stole one and then drove it across the low countries before eventually being halted by a volley of Belgium police fire. Full details here.
- A much less well documented tale involves a soldier attempting to go AWOL and swimming his stolly across the Channel. The usual ending involves him floating around in the Channel. More details here
Non Urban Myth
- Did see the beast dragging in a dead FV432 after an Active Edge Crash-out farting out a billion tons of carbon to extend the ol'e military footprint.
