This is what the Crabs call their Majors.

The holder of this rank is, however, unlikely to actually command a Squadron unless it is in a strictly administrative sense - e.g. "Supply Squadron".

An actual flying Squadron will be commanded by a Wing Commander who will have Squadron Leaders as Flight Commanders.

Confusing, ain't it?

... And yes, the RAF is dangerously top heavy with REMF officers sucking the defense budget dry as they hang around shuffling paper till pensionable age. Nearly as bad as the RN!
