When a soldier in the field is seen wandering off into the bushes with a shovel, they are recce-ing a quiet spot in which to park a Compo Anaconda. Not usually seen until at least day 3 of an exercise due to compo's binding properties.

However if said soldier disappears with a shovel at exactly the same time everyday, claims to be Dutch or South African and UK is once again at war with the Germans ... its best to assume he's a Jerry spy no matter how nice a bloke he is. On arrival at destination, buy him an ice cold pint then shop him to the RMP's.
