Two and a half thousand of these medals were awarded to personnel who served in Rhodesia for 14 days during the cease-fire monitoring operation (Operation AGILA) prior to the elections that led to Rhodesia becoming Zimbabwe. The period of eligibility was between 1 December 1979 & 20 March 1980. Most medals are named to Army & RAF personnel, although a few were issued to naval personnel as part of the tri-service monitoring group.
