Plant Operator Mechanic

The Plant Operator is the member of the Royal Engineers that you will see in coveralls, covered in oil and greese with a pie in his hand and with a little bit of a weight problem.

He is skilled in maintaining and operating all of the army's earthmoving plant and it is a joy to watch the suveyors spending hours marking out an excavation and the 'planty' to stroll up, take a sideways look at the ground, hop in his machine and after a few minutes of digging switch off, hop out and head for the NAAFI mumbling "That'll do".

Remember, it took him six months to learn to do that..
