Although they can apply for a commission after the 2 year period, its significantly harder to get the commission if you have been a scummy junior rank with some military experience and an operational tour or two under your belt than it is for some junior grade nurse from some MRSA riddled hospital with no experience in anything other than whinging about NHS pay!
