Once home to the HQ of the late lamented Pioneer Corps, Simpson Barracks is now a rather sad housing estate, although plaques commemorating the 'Chunkies' were erected and - when not defaced by local chavs - are clearly on display.

Otherwise best known as a town you couldn't avoid heading back to Harwich or Felixstowe for your ferry to your NWE posting.
