If you require Service Families Accommodation (SFA), take action by contacting the appropriate Housing Management Agency.
In Great Britain housing is provided through the Defence Estates Operations Housing (DE Ops Hsg), in Northern Ireland and overseas is provided by other housing providers.
MoD Form 1132 & AF A10
The application for housing is the MOD Form 1132 (for moves overseas and Northern Ireland the form AFA10 is still sometimes used). This form needs to be signed by the unit and by the serving spouse/civil partner (if they are away consult their unit for assistance). If you need adaptations to your house due to special requirements then you must supply an Occupational Therapist report to enable the housing authority to carry out the necessary work.

Any Difficulties?
If you have any difficulties with your accommodation, or if you have special needs, call the Housing Information Centre (HIC) network through a single national number: 0800 169 6322. You can also contact the HIC on 01904 418000 (not freephone) or 94510 8000 if you are on the military network.
If you experience problems with the moving process itself, contact your Unit Welfare Officer for advice. You may also contact The Family Associations for further advice. In certain cases you may be able to:
- Submit an application to DE Ops Hsg for surplus SFA elsewhere if you do not want SFA entitlement at your new duty station.
- Make a case to DE Ops Hsg to retain your current SFA if there are Service, educational, medical or welfare reasons – Children’s Education Advisory Service (CEAS), SSAFA and Service welfare may be able to help.
- Apply to DE Ops Hsg to retain your quarter if it is surplus to requirements.
Check with your pay staff as to whether there are any implications and costs in not moving to your new duty station e.g. eligibility for Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA). You could also ask on the dedicated ARRSE forum here.
Transit Accommodation
You may be entitled to transit accommodation to help you move of up to five nights. Speak to your Unit Personnel Staff on eligibility. If there is no Service provided transit accommodation you should use the Central Hotel Booking Service on Tel: 08457 585376. Please note that if you make private arrangements you may not receive a full refund.
Short Term Accommodation
This is available for all Service families if you need temporary accommodation at the Cotswold Centre.
Emergency Accommodation
Stepping Stones Homes offer temporary accommodation to Service and ex-Service families who need emergency accommodation. For further information contact SSAFA Forces Help Central Office on 020 7463 9209.
