Militia

A uniformed part-time paramilitary organisation whose function was to aid the civil power under legal statute. The Militia was absorbed in to the Special Reserve in 1908 though certain categories of service continued as a separate (Militia) entity before finally becoming absorbed by the Army Emergency Reserve in 1953 and (ultimately) the T&AVR and TA.
