Military Life In Preston

Preston in Lancashire is home to HQ 42 (North West) Brigade and 5 GS Regiment RAMC, both at Fulwood Barracks.

The collective wisdom seems to be that if you're moving to Preston, there are some MQs right by Fulwood Barracks, but most families are accomodated about 9 miles away at Wharton and 15 miles away at Weeton.

The 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) are currently based at Weeton, near Preston.

	.... That Lancashire County Council run a very useful GIS website called MARIO. MARIO shows local schools, crime stats, aerial photos etc, all overlaid onto OS mapping of the area. Bang in the postcode of your new MQ and get the low-down!


	.... Preston has great links via the motorway network; North up the M6 to Scotland and The Lake District, South to Birmingham, The South West and London or east across the Pennines into Yorkshire along the M62. Closer to home, Blackpool is 30 minutes away, as are some lovely little towns like Goosnargh, Clitheroe and Lytham StAnnes.
