A 36mm diameter silver circular medal. The face has an image of the reigning monarch, the reverse has the inscription 'For Bravery In The Field', surrounded by a laurel wreath, with the Royal Cypher and Imperial Crown above.

Dark blue, with 5 equal width stripes centred white, red, white red, white.

Other Ranks, equivalent to the Officer's Military Cross, although lower in precedence if both worn together.

Instituted in 1916.
Following the 1993 review, the Military Medal was discontinued and the Military Cross became available to all ranks of all services for exemplary gallantry on land in presence of the enemy.
