Medicine Hat
From ARRSEpedia
Famously described as having "all hell for a basement" by Rudyard Kipling and "the middle of f*cking nowhere" by everybody else. Except the local government, who call it "The Gas City".
A small town - pop 57,000 canucks, 10 million gophers (known to officers and other pedants as Richardson's Ground Squirrels) and at least 25 trillion mosquitos - in Alberta, Canada and the closest thing (some 42km) that passes (very, very loosely) for civilisation to CFB Suffield, aka BATUS. On TransCanada Highway 1.
Best known to the British Army for beer, strippers and tarts. (Not necessarily in that order and I am not sure how this differentiates it from any other town close to a major base.) Particularly renowned for aging hippocrocagrillapigs. Recently had a strongly feminist mayor, who closed the strip clubs and tried to get rid of the tarts. This made life very difficult for the gophers, especially when MDN deployed (duct tape doesn't stick to gopher fur as well as it does to hamsters.) It isn't as if they don't get enough abuse from the infantry anyway.
Calgary is more fun if you can get there (250km the other way i.e. go west from BATUS.)
