Powerful cartridges originated in the 1930's, General George S. Patton was one of the first known users of a .357 Magnum revolver. The French Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale (GIGN) use the Smith & Wesson Model 686 chambered in .357 Magnum for underwater operations.
