Lichfield

Lichfield, Staffordshire is a cathedral town twenty miles North of Birmingham.


Formerly the depot of the Staffordshire Regiment, Whittington Barracks Lichfield has been home to the Army Training Regiment (ATR) Lichfield.


British Army recruits from some regiments attend ATR Lichfield for their Part 1 Training ( Common Military syllabus). There are other ATRs at Winchester, Bassingbourn and Glencorse.


The last recruit is due to pass off the square at ATR Lichfield in May 2008. The ATR is moving to Pirbright in Surrey.

Whittington Barracks will remain MoD property under current plans. After a redevelopment to reconfigure the accommodation, the site is set to become home to the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine .


Training at the current Defence Medical Services Training Centre (DMSTC) Keogh Barracks will be moved to Lichfield commencing in 2010.
