Le Cateau (Fr. Le Cateau-Cambrésis) is a municipality in Northern France.

The site of the Battle of Le Cateau on 26th August 1914, where Smith-Dorrien's II Corps turned around during the Retreat from Mons and gave Von Kluk's First Army a good drubbing.

The battle was detailed by Richard Holmes in his BBC War Walks] series.

Also, Le Cateau is the name of the barracks adjoining Cavalry Baracks in Colchester.
