JAVELIN
From ARRSEpedia
- Forerunner to HVM and successor to BLOWPIPE as the British Army Light Air Defence system. A shoulder-launched SAM, there is more information here for the pointy-headed.
- Also the name of the new ATGW system used by the British Army which replaces MILAN. Some sort of rocket thingy apparently.
- Also, in the 1950s, a bloody great twin-engined twin-delta AW fighter aircraft by Gloster with an unfortunate habit of killing its crews. The main delta tending to obscure the tail delta at certain configurations; usually at a critcal phase of flight, like landing and tight turns. Became a night fighter, noted for its very discordant engine noise; kept me awake as a kid, wondering where the bloody hell the monster was! Apparently had the nickname of "drag queen" due to the delta wings...
this page to be incorporated into Javelin when I get round to it
