Illumination
The use of an assortment of fun, bright or glowing objects such as flares, flash lights, glow sticks (cylumes) or even the humble Zippo to allow you to see exactly what it is you're supposed to be doing/killing.
The trick is selecting the appropriate method for the task at hand. It is not, for example, recommend using a Trip Flare to illuminate your dining room for a fancy dinner with the Long Haired Sunray.
Likewise, using a weapon mounted Maglite to illuminate the enemy (or your wife) also indicates exactly where the enemy should unload its ordnance - i.e. in your direction.
One should also take in to consideration passive illumination, such as infra-red. Just because you're not dancing in the spotlight doesn't mean that you're not lit up like Blackpool Tower - especially in your Webtex chest rig and non-spec (non-IRR) windproof smock that you spent a month's wages on at Silverman's.
And best not even discuss thermal signature.
