Lieutenant Colonel Sir Henry Simmerson is a fictional commanding officer in the early Sharpe novels.

Described as short, squat and red-faced giving the impression of "a pig sitting on horseback" he is the classic narrow minded, arrogant snob who is militarily about as much use as Gordon Brown. Although none too bright (Brown or Simmerson - take your pick), he is a dangerous man to cross.

Quote: 'The British soldier is a brute in a red coat! He NEEDS the lash!'
