Grapeshit: (Commonly known as Grapeshot)

A type of bowel movement named after its similarity to the old canister or grapeshot loads fired in muzzle loading cannon as an anti-personnel device. Where these consisted of a large piece of wadding and a great number of lead balls over a charge of gunpowder, in grapeshit the components are of an organic nature:

Firing sequence is initiated on sitting but hangfires are common and some delay may be experienced prior to detonation of the main propelling charge. The first element to emerge on firing is the Overwad, here shown to the left of the diagram. This is usually solid and a tight fit in the bore. It's reluctance to depart the barrel allows combustion pressures to become very high. It is followed by the grapeshot itself which takes the form of a large number of deformable pellets, often discharged with traces of liquid explosive. Although spherical on firing, these undergo severe deformation upon hitting a solid surface. Certain types employ a "bursting charge" that may actuate immediately on firing causing debris to be scattered through 360 degrees. All variants are extremely damaging and create a raw gaping hole. Usually associated with a prolonged diet of biscuits AB followed by a Lamb Jalfrezi and several pints of real ale. grapeshot.jpg
