Generally not used by your average Bill Oddie in reference to any small or large hairy household pet of the sort that has built in instincts to chase your household cat or insist on being taken for a walk by the member of the household currently watching the Football on TV and not the member doing the ironing, the laundry or making the dinner for said Football watching household member.

But more generally used in chitchat as 'The Dogs' refers to: "The Dogs Bollocks" or "Mechenders" (depending if you originate from the Far East or the Middle East - Far East being Cha'am (more commonly pronounced Chatham - Middle East being from the Hupper Cloise area of Surrey and surrounding well orf haven...)
