A defensive position is an area of ground prepared in such a way as to aid the defenders beat back an attack by an enemy.
In ancient/medieval times this might be a ditch, palisade, ring of caltrops or a line of stakes driven into the ground.
In more modern times defensive positions can range greatly from ...
- A carefully constructed position with interlocking fields of fire, pre-registered mortars/artillery, barbed wire, mines and mutually supporting fortified bunkers...
all the way to...
- A complete clusterfuck of Shell Scrapes thrown together in desperation as its realized that the enemy is about to overrun our collective arrses.
