HUMINT is Human Intelligence and is gathered from a person on the ground in the following ways:

  1. Patrolling (Military police, patrols, etc);
  2. Strategic reconnaissance, as by Special Forces
  3. Military attaches
  4. Friendly accredited diplomats
  5. Prisoners of war (POW's) or detainees
  6. Refugees
  7. Traveler debriefing(e.g., CIA Domestic Contact Service)
  8. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
  9. Espionage

GEOINT is Geospatial Intelligence and is gathered from satellite, aerial photography, mapping/terrain data.
