Probably the most damaging piece of cinematographic bollocks ever to threaten the unity of the U.K.
In short the film seeks to portray the power struggle between the English based French ( The Plantagenets) and the Scottish based French ( Robert De Bruce and Guillame Wallace ) as some sort of great Saxon versus Celt bloodfest.
The film is riven with historical howlers but has gone down well North of the Border amongst the Rab C. Nesbitt fraternity. So...no surprise there then. It did however do wonders for the Blue Face paint market.
Also resulted in many drunken scots chavs climbing on top of statues to scream 'FREEEEEEDOM' at the top of their lungs before falling off. Extremely entertaining... and I'm Scots!
Sadly, the drunken chavs don't end up the same way as Wallace, having their nads cut off.
