Australian L1A1/L2A1 SLR rifles used by the SASR with their barrels chopped short for easier movement around thick jungles of Vietnam and were modded for full auto fire. The handguard/bipods were sometimes removed for XM148 under-barrel grenade launchers to be fitted.

The bitch gun used 30 round magazines (that could also be used on the L4 Bren). Australian SAS troopers preferred the SLR instead of the M-16 because they preferred the stopping power of the 7.62 NATO round.
