Benny from Crossroads

Inhabitant of Falkland Islands.

So named due to similarity to character Benny from '70s UK TV series Crossroads. The term was later banned by grown ups as being offensive. Bennies were then renamed 'Stills' - as in 'Still Bennies'.

A term also used in a humorous manner: e.g Where do Falkland Islanders go on holiday? Bennydorm etc. Bennies were later renamed 'Andies' - as in 'Andy is still a Benny'. All very confusing see? The Bennies got their own back by dubbing their liberating tormentors as "Whennies." As in "When I was in Belize...When I was in Aden..." etc.
