About Armymail

On registering with ArmyNet each user is issued with an unique email address (username@armymail.mod.uk).

This provides each user with a career lifetime email service, which can be used to overcome the security limitations of commercial versions (Hotmail etc). This means that colleagues and the chain of command now has the ability to email all registered users, in order to pass on information - even when they are on leave, or away from their duty station.

E-mails between ArmyNET users are encrypted before being sent. E-mails to and from external (non ArmyNET) e-mail accounts will not be encrypted. Content of ALL e-mails must be UNCLASSIFIED.

Each armymail account is safeguarded from viruses and so preserves the integrity of the infrastructure on which it is used. This enables computers, available through the Operational Welfare Package (OWP), to be used safely even if commercial email services are removed.

Unlike most commercial email facilities, ArmyNET currently has no limitation on a users storage space on the email server. However users are required to undertake housekeeping to ensure that servers are not unnecessarily burdened. Additionally, there is currently no limit on the size of email being sent or received. If the capacity of the mail server is exceeded, users will be notified (in good time) before emails over 6 months old will be deleted.
