Ancestors in the RAF

Very early records will be held at the NA, but since the RAF was only formed 1st April 1918, there won't be that much to go on.
However, if your ancestor was RAF in WW1, then they probably started somewhere else such as the Royal Flying Corps or another Army unit. It might be worth searching for their start point as opposed to their RAF service.
Records post 1920 are still held by the RAFdetails here under Personnel Records [1]
Like the Navy, there seems to be a thriving "old crabs" network, so a Google search for an Squadron Association might help you.
