APC

Armoured Personnel Carrier - Normally a simple form of tracked or wheeled armoured 'battlefield taxi' that is designed to protect the infantry section up to the point at which the assault is launched. At this point they dismount and attack as normal infantry.
An Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) is much the same, but comes with a big gun to provide fire support.
