266 Port Squadron RLC(V)

Part of 165(V) Port & Maritime Regt RLC.

Although headquartered and administered (like all Specialist RLC TA units) from Grantham, majority of working time is spent at SMC Marchwood near Southampton.

165(V) was formed from an original TA squadron of 17 Port & Maritime Regt.

266 sqn is one of two composite Port operating Squadrons which together with 264 HQ Sqn make up 165(V).

Squadron comprises Port operators,Plant operators and a single Vessel Troop.

Historically recruited extensively from Liverpool. This may explain why so many of its soldiers employ a peculiar hand gesture whenever a camera is present, largely covering the face. The words 'Fookin' DSS' often accompany the gesture.
