241 Airmobile Squadron RLC(V)
241 Airmobile Combat Service Support Squadron RLC (V)
Probably the shortest lived TA unit ever !
241 was an "experimental" unit brought to life by HQ RLC TA in the 1990's as a second line specialist unit part of 24 Airmobile Brigade Combat Service Supply Battalion. The unit consisted of:
SHQ + HQ Tp A Troop - GS Tpt (DROPS) B Troop - GS Tpt (DROPS) C Troop - Fuel Troop (TTF aviation & road) D Troop - Stores Troop (8 ton / 10 Ton / 14 Ton)
Notionally based at Grantham yet most of the Sqn training was conducted at Cavalry Barracks, Colchester (of Blackadder Goes Forth starting sequence fame). The wartime role of the Sqn was to provide a formed sub unit to provide the rear link from POD to Brigade XP for 24 Bde.
The "experiment" didn't really work and the unit was killed off almost before the forming parade had taken place in Colchester. A mix of the best and the "cast offs" from other specialist units made up the troops but all members wore the 24 Bde flash with pride and confused most of the mess members at Grantham with the flash and "black" rank slides.
Most of 241 were absorbed into 270 Sqn / 164 Regiment on disbandment after just 2 years.
The least said about "dykegate" the better....former members will know all about that !
